LA based fashion label ELKIN by designer duo sisters Kara and Brit Smith reveals their newest Fall / Winter 2014 lookbook starring Emma Roberts. The shoot took place at Paramour Mansion with the actress / artist (also friend of the designers), styled in ELKIN’s latest collection that draws inspiration from school girl themed styles to a more sexy and sophisticated looks inspired from Gwyenth Paltrow’s ‘Great Expectations.’

Let’s hear what the designers have to say about their beautiful new collection!

“Emma is our girl. Not only is she one of our closest friends (we always tell people the 3 of us are sisters, because we feel like sisters), but she was also the muse for our FW14 collection. It’s funny because when we started ELKIN, we knew exactly who our girl was and what she was about… and now she has a face. Emma has such a wild, fun, creative mind like us and she really identified with this collection. There was no one better to have around us during the FW14 design process and there was obviously no one better to model it.

Our photoshoot for this collection was the most magical day at the Paramour Mansion. It felt like the 3 of us were playing dress up and running through Miss Havisham’s house or The Secret Garden. It was like being at sleepover camp with your best friend… we were constantly laughing. We got to see how each other work which is really beautiful for friends to witness. The actress and artist in Emma that day was mesmerizing to watch… she has such a raw talent that just comes to life in front of the camera. I think she was just as happy to see how we directed the shoot and how our vision was realized.”

“Besides being a close friend, Emma is ELKIN’s number 1 fan… she loves wearing our clothes; it’s as if they were made for her. She wears our clothes exactly how we would want them to be worn and she always ends up looking effortlessly cool and feminine, the quintessential ELKIN look.

Many of our pieces are inspired by Emma, as we take so much inspiration from our friends. Our friends have always been our muses, since day 1. Emma is the perfect ELKIN girl so it easy to design with her in mind… she’s that perfect mix of vintage and modern and her style is effortlessly cool which we love. It’s classic but it also injects elements of decades past, using the 90s and 60s as some of her (and our) favorite eras to play with. The 3 of us always talk about how we love a dark 90s witchy look mixed with a classic 60s french inspired boarding school girl sort of look. So we merged these two looks for this collection. I think we all are just on the same page in terms of what inspires us, which is really awesome.

For this FW14 collection, we found inspiration in everything from The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie to the Sweet Valley High series. We also listened to a lot of Stevie Nicks, Aerosmith and Oasis while designing this collection. Having spent our high school years at an all girls Catholic Boarding School in Los Angeles, and also loving Emma’s character on American Horror Story: Coven, Kara and I really drew inspiration from that. Our clothes told a story that was remininscent of our high school days… we designed half of the collection to be a little more classic school-girl inspired – dresses with colors, flirty floral skirts, crewneck sweatshirts, varsity jackets, etc. The other half of our collection was inspired by a more sophisticad, sexy and mischevious style, while staying classic, a la Gwyenth Paltrow in ‘Great Expectations.’ For this half of the collection, we designed sensual silk dresses and cashmere coats. These two halves created our whole that is the ELKIN girl, that perfect mix of good girl bad girl. We shot at the Paramour Mansion in Silverlake, and we shot our favorite friend and favorite ELKIN girl, Emma… and it all came to life. ”
