Los Angeles based creative soul Sisilia Piring’s photography is magical. Her sense of soft colors and lighting techniques adds an unique touch to her work that draws us in. A mixture of youthful, quirky and charming characteristics, there’s no wonder she has a range of clients from Urban to Nylon, Reformation and Levi’s. We had the amazing opportunity for a mini interview sesssh to catch up with the creative unicorn. Peep below:
Q: We’re absolutely in LOVE with your photography! There’s something really magical in your work… from the lighting to the colors, that stir a certain kind of emotion when we see your photos. How would you describe your style of photography?
Wow, thanks so much! I like to portray a sense of effortless in my work, even though it’s far from effortless when you’re putting together a shoot. I don’t like the models to be too posey. I want it to be candid as possible. I imagine it like hanging out with a good friend and I happen to have a camera with me to capture the moment.
Q: We’re curious to know how it all began – how did you get your start?
It started one afternoon hanging out with my best friend several years ago. She wanted me to take photos for her to send to her boyfriend and there was this perfectly laid out mess of Nylon Magazine on the floor. I thought it was the perfect backdrop so I placed her in the middle of the mess and that was my first shoot!
Q: You’re based out of LA – are there certain things in the city that has influenced you? You mention that there is something special when it comes to the California light – can you describe that for us?
Los Angeles has influenced me in many ways. The weather, the palm trees, the sunsets, and the way people carry themselves here. Love the laid back mood here. It’s relaxed, not forced, and everyone goes with the flow and doesn’t fret too much. I think that attitude seeps into the way I photograph. California light is amazing to capture. It’s just so different here, something more magical. Don’t know how to explain it.
Q: What are some of your sources for inspiration? What ignites that wonderful imagination of yours?
Traveling inspires me immensely. I think getting out of my comfort zone pushes me to see things differently and that greatly sparks my imagination in so many ways.

Q: Let’s talk personal style (we noticed your style is on fire!) – how would you describe your style?
Aw, thank you so much! I feel my best in comfortable clothes that I can move around and get dirty in. I live in vintage Levis jeans, overalls, and jumpsuits. I also love that effortless Parisian style a la Jane Birkin, chic tomboy.
Q: Who are some of your fave designers?
Maryam Nassir Zadeh & Rachel Comey are first to come in mind.
Q: Film or digital?
Love both. Digital for work and film for personal projects or family photos.
