Full of deconstructed pieces, raw edges, and asymmetric silhouettes, this Spring/Summer 2020 collection from Wen Pan takes inspiration from the idea of abandoned family homes in Shanghai. Whether we see that through ripped floral “wallpaper” or designs that look “ruined”, this collection is meant to be both harsh and delicate, all at the same time. But how does something so raw and distressed end up having a soft and delicate feel? Wen Pen accomplishes this through a soft color palette, floral print, and plenty of draping. If this collection were to be done in black or heavy fabrics, it would likely end up feeling a bit more gothic or grunge-inspired, especially because of the use of plaid shown throughout. So while these overly deconstructed pieces might not be exactly what you’re used to seeing on your average day, they do fill a more artistic gap in the fashion industry.
