Inspired by the photobook, “Liebes Leben” the Fall / Winter 2020 collection from Ioannes brings us something that feels equal parts complex, but also wearable and stripped back. Why such a contrast? Well, if you know anything about the photobook that the collection is inspired by, then you know the subject of the book is Irene Staub, an icon of the Zurich underground during the ‘70s who often had many different styles, personas, and lifestyles that she lead. Let’s take a look through the various contrasting pairings that are highlighted throughout. First off, we notice a rather casual cropped cardigan that has been paired with a more tailored and sophisticated pencil skirt. The addition of pantyhose and pointed-toe pumps furthers that more sophisticated feel. In addition, more evening style dresses are paired with colorful leggings to bring in that more playful element. Even full sequin dresses are made to feel a bit more dressed down when paired with leather slouchy boots. In addition, taking a look at the cashmere dresses, you’ll notice slightly irregular ribbing, which adds a level of imperfection to the piece, which feels right in line with this surprising Ioannes collection. Add on the talents of photographer Marius Uhlig and styling by Alessia Vanini, and we’ve got ourselves a collection that’s bound to capture the attention of the most passionate fashion lovers.
