Let’s Swim marks an exciting departure for Georgian-born fashion designer David Koma, as he explores a new creative avenue. While the brand shares a similar tone with his eponymous David Koma label, it distinctively embodies a sexier, racier, and more youthful vibe. The swimwear pieces feature daring cutouts and slashes, showcasing a range of vibrant shades such as red, ocean blue, metallics, and lemony yellow. In contrast, the apparel pieces are characterized by ribbed and mesh textures in classic black and white.

Let’s Swim is not just a business venture for David Koma; it’s also a passion project. The designer wanted to keep it separate from his eponymous brand, exploring the concept of single-product-focused concepts and operating outside the traditional fashion calendar. By launching Let’s Swim with a whole new team, Koma seeks to experience something different and embrace a fresh game plan. Sustainability is also core value of Let’s Swim. All the pieces in the collection are made from recycled plastics sourced from the ocean, alongside the use of 100 percent cotton. Despite not explicitly highlighting these sustainable initiatives, Koma believes they are imperative and seamlessly incorporates them into his design process.

Aquatic motifs have long inspired David Koma’s ready-to-wear collections, and Let’s Swim is no exception. In his Spring 2023 show, Koma drew inspiration from American marine biologist Sylvia Earle and her documentary, “Mission Blue.” The collection featured shell prints lasered onto little black dresses and starfish embroideries, encapsulating the beauty and freedom of being in one’s own skin. Koma believes that swimwear presents a unique opportunity for self-expression and liberation, distinct from streetwear or high fashion.
