Taylor Momsen, best known for her pivotal role in Gossip Girl and the lead singer of band Pretty Reckless, has been enlisted by R13 for their latest campaign. Momsen has always leaned into an edgier, grunge aesthetic which is undoubtedly the reason why the brand tapped her and her aesthetic for this shoot.
The R13 x Taylor Momsen campaign was shot at the Chelsea Hotel and is as rock ‘n’ roll as you can get. The star is pictured sitting in a bathtub with a black cropped tweed jacket along with just a pair of fishnet tights and underwear. In another picture, she is sporting an oversized tee that reads “f*ck me, I’m in a band” with a myriad of silver jewlery and a signature smokey eye makeup. Other key pieces include heavy-duty combat boots, bleached sweaters, and a pair of oversized white sunglasses that Kurt Cobain, himself, would have likely sported on stage. The entire collection ranges from $65 to $3,495, so this haven of grunge-inspired clothing definitely comes at a cost.
CEO of R13, Chris Leba, remarked that he chose Taylor Momsen because of “how well she strikes a balance between conflicting looks and ideas: soft and hard, feminine and masculine, grungy and chic”. This could not be more apparent in the latest campaign. In addition, Momsen herself stated that she thinks that “for a lot of musicians, fashion is a big part of their visual expression”.
