Engineered Garments

Over the course of two decades, Daiki Suzuki’s Engineered Garments has managed to break free from the constraints of imitating Americana-inspired brands, which tend to be stuck in a cycle of decay. Suzuki’s design philosophy can be traced back to his early exposure to mountaineering gear, followed by the influence of the ‘designer and character’ brand trend popularized by Comme des Garçons, and his experience as a buyer for Nepenthes boutiques in the early 1990s. This has resulted in a unique combination of patterns such as madras, polka dot, floral, and Glen plaid, all incorporated into menswear pieces made from taffeta, ripstop nylon, twill, and satin. Each year, Engineered Garments continues to merge various elements of American fashion, drawing from the codes of 1930s suiting and 1970s military specifications, creating a style that is both out of place and perfectly at home in the ever-evolving present.
