Now a freelance fashion journalist who also happened to run her own super popular blog – ilovemalebitch.com – is also a social media influencer on Instagram @malebitch with over 54,000 followers and counting. Not too shabby for someone who is a mere quarter century old.

Barbara is smart, ambitious, successful, and beautiful, but you would be remiss in assuming it all came easy for her. Success wasn’t just handed to her. Barbara Malewicz attending school for fashion design and worked her tail off doing internships all over Paris and using her strong work ethic to prove herself time and time again. Though she originally had the desire to become a designer herself, Barbara began diversifying her experience by working not only with jewelry brands and clothing brands, but also by expanding into the press world. Her willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty and ability to work hard to prove herself always set her aside from her peers, and she eventually landed as editor at WAD, the cutting edge fashion mag, which stands for “We Are Different”. WAD is known for being a super hip publication about urban culture and fashion based out of Paris, so it seems all the hard work paid off!
Barbara’s unique sense of style is hard to ignore. It takes just one glance at her Instagram account to see that she is the self-professed “result of the ’90s culture and Barbie reign. Never afraid of ending with weird combos.” And we’re all about that! But more than just her penchant for bad-ass styling and her ability to rock a range of rad styles with confidence, we love the message she’s delivering with her on-line presence: female empowerment! And it’s so fitting, no pun intended, that Malewicz is all about bringing female empowerment through fashion. While genderless fashion is certainly not a new concept, Barbara argues that because women’s bodies are still highly sexualized, the current version of “genderless” fashion is still highly male. And although Malewicz can really rock a genderless look like the rest of them, she just wants you to wear what makes you feel good! And we love that message, because there’s nothing more exciting than being able to express yourself and be authentic to who you are through the medium of fashion.
So where did Barbara get her distinctive name and style from? Her Polish last name Malewicz which is pronounced Mal-vitch slowly playfully morphed into Malebitch when her friends coined the nickname for her and, well, it just kind of stuck! And Barbara wouldn’t have it any other way. To her, the name denotes strong, fierce women who dress the way they want and fight for their freedom and rights. And while the word “Bitch” can certainly come off as aggressive or bristly to some, Barbara instead believes that it brings it full circle to the positive and powerful nature of woman.
So what’s it like to live in Paris, work in the fashion world, and be a highly sought after style influencer like Malewicz? For her part, the fashion lover keeps busy seeking adventures and new inspirations in Paris, through her busy on-the-go lifestyle. The best part? Her job as a freelance journalist allows her to meet and work with artists, musicians, and fashion designers from around the globe!
And while living in Paris has certainly influenced her style in some ways, the fashion editor finds most Parisians to be more conventional and classy when it comes to fashion than what she gravitates towards naturally. It’s really London that has Malewicz’ fashion heart on a string, and she dreams of someday going back to London to live and work and get inspired once again. We all have a city that inspires us to be our most expressive selves, and with all the crazy designers, colorful esthetics, and grunge-forward fashion found in London, Barbara is really hoping to make London home again in the not so distant future.
And if you’re having major job envy for this cutting edge fashion muse, what she loves most about doing what she does might surprise you. Sure, attending the hottest fashion shows, cavorting with top designers, editing for a top fashion publication, and getting all kinds of fabulous free-bees has got to be great! But her favorite part is always meeting new people from all over the world and turning some of those connections into life long friendships. And hey, traveling all over the world isn’t too shabby either.
