Just by merely glancing at this collection, it becomes clear that there is more meaning behind these pieces than just simply your standard clothing pieces. We immediately pick up on the artistic angle. In the Autumn/Winter ‘18 collection, entitled “High on Life”, the designer, Eva Lili Bartha, took inspiration for this collection from her former addiction to pills. You’ll notice the bright colors used throughout, and the somewhat erratic patterns and eye-popping designs. These colors and prints symbolize the euphoria a drug addict often feels when on drugs, while the negative white space represents the naked soul, or the feeling a drug addict might feel prior to taking pills. Bartha took her life experience and translated it into her designs, which is something she has become known for. She uses her designs as a communication medium to make statements about important topics. With this collection, we clearly see that fashion can be purposeful, impactful, and relevant to our modern society. It just takes brave and talented designers to share their journey with us.
