Neighborhood

Founded in 1994 in the Harajuku district of Tokyo, Neighborhood was created by its founder Shinsuke Takizawa, who had a deep fascination with western subcultures. Takizawa’s interest in American biker culture was sparked by ’60s road films, leading him to start riding and customizing motorbikes himself. This hobby has greatly influenced his approach to design. Through Neighborhood, Takizawa pays homage to Americana motorcycle culture by giving a functional twist to its aesthetic elements in a range of products including ready-to-wear clothing, outdoor gear, accessories, homewares, and furniture. The Japanese brand draws inspiration from vintage military design and London punk scene paraphernalia, which is evident in their supple leather biker jackets, selvedge denim jeans, and utilitarian shirts. The brand’s retro vibe is also reflected in the design details of their tents, fold-up sleeping cots and chairs, incense burners, ashtrays, and aprons. Each item is crafted with both functionality and visual appeal in mind, creating a nostalgic feel.
