2024 has been a year of embracing new looks and pushing boundaries in fashion and beauty. Instead of sticking to the traditional smokey eye, why not venture into this fresh, alternative makeup style? Instead of applying darker shades all over the lid, simply reverse the effect onto the lower half. You might be thinking this could enhance your dark circles or look too bottom-heavy, but don’t knock it until you try it. The reverse smokey eye makeup is unexpectedly beautiful, and what’s even better is that it only takes minutes to put together.
As always, start with your base. Since the emphasis is on the eyes with this makeup, use a lighter hand for your blush and bronzer so the end result doesn’t look too harsh. From there, brush and sculpt your brows to perfection. Use a brow gel and fill in with a fine pencil if necessary. Next, apply a matte eyeshadow stick in a light taupe shade and sweep this all over the eyelid, blending outwards. Then, take a slightly deeper shade to darken the outer corners and blend this up and into the crease to open up the eyes.
Now it’s time for eyeliner. We suggest opting for a waterproof formula so your reverse smokey eye makeup can last all night long. Carefully line the bottom waterline as well as the area right underneath. Create a small wing and connect this to the line you just created. Then, wield a smudging brush to ever so slightly blend this out for a softer aesthetic. Once this is complete, use the darker eyeshadow from before and place this over the eyeliner. Doing so is just another way to ensure the eyeliner doesn’t bleed and smudge. Curl your lashes and apply mascara.
