Colleen Allen Spring 2027 starts with the dancer’s warm-up wardrobe: tiny boleros, low-slung pants, and layers that stretch the line of the torso. Tutus can sit this one out. Presented during New York Fashion Week, the lineup draws on Martha Graham and Pina Bausch, with Allen considering dance as a spiritual practice. Her familiar Gothic romance gets a lighter treatment, and the proportions do much of the talking. Even the croissant-shaped bags grow large enough for a studio trip.

For Colleen Allen, a few inches can change an entire outfit. Ultra-cropped jackets pull the eye upward, while slim pants sit low on the hips; necklines falling below the bust further lengthen the chest and neck. A sheer body stocking developed with Swedish Stockings supplies the base. There’s precision beneath those apparently casual layers, too: the back of one cropped tailored jacket uses a single seam. It’s a persuasive argument for paying attention to where a jacket stops.

Velvet gowns loosen the mood with fabric draped across the body, while trapeze coats, gauzy white dusters, and capes catch air as their wearers walk. The white pieces also suggest a bridal wardrobe with a wonderfully spooky streak. Then comes the weight: a brick-colored jersey column covered entirely in metal paillettes, displayed on a mannequin at the presentation’s center. Allen imagined the dress as a Joan of Arc protector, giving all that floating fabric an armored counterpart.
