We often feel pressured to choose between cool-toned and warm-toned makeup. Committing fully to either palette can create a stunning look, but this summer, beauty lovers are throwing those rules out entirely. There’s a growing wave of makeup blending both cool and warm tones together for a more dimensional result. Rather than leaning entirely bronzy and sun-drenched or icy and muted, this mixed-tone approach lands somewhere far more interesting – right in the space between. The contrast creates depth that monochromatic makeup can’t quite achieve, giving the face a more authentic, multidimensional finish. Ahead, an easy way to master the mixed-tone makeup look.
Warm, Flushed Base
To keep the look summery and radiant, start with a warm-toned complexion. Begin by applying a lightweight skin tint or luminous serum foundation to even out the skin while maintaining a natural glow. Blend concealer underneath the eyes and around any areas needing brightness so the complexion looks fresh and awake. Next comes the warmth. Using a softly shimmery bronzer, diffuse color into the temples, cheekbones, and perimeter of the face. Then layer on a warm-toned blush, sticking to bright pinks, coral reds, or terracotta shades. Keep the placement slightly higher on the cheeks and lightly sweep across the nose bridge.
Cool, Smokey Eyes
To contrast the warmth in the complexion, the eyes shift dramatically cooler in tone. After applying eyeshadow primer, sweep a cool taupe or slate gray shadow across the lids and lower lash line. Avoid anything overly bronze. Blend the shadow softly upward into the crease to create a hazy smokiness. Then, using a waterproof eyeliner, tightline both the upper and lower waterlines. Finish with curled lashes and several coats of mascara to frame the eyes.
The juxtaposition between the warm, flushed skin and the cooler, smoky eyes is what makes this makeup look work so well.
