The Vibe Is…
• Oceanic fantasy meets sculptural punk artistry
• Childhood imagination reimagined through couture construction
• A sensory show that blurs reality and dream
Noir Kei Ninomiya’s Spring 2026 collection felt like a lucid dream pulled from the depths of the subconscious, where fantasy and childhood nostalgia swim together in glimmering harmony. The show began with a rush of sound that rippled through the air, creating an almost cinematic sense of immersion. A tulle midi dress paired with a sculptural chest piece and a surreal mask by Shinji Konishi opened the collection, offering a preview of what was to come. The result was a show that felt tender, strange, and visually breathtaking all at once.

Collaboration has always been a quiet strength in Ninomiya’s process, and this season’s lineup showcased that synergy beautifully. Footwear by Jimmy Choo took on a futuristic tone with chrome star-shaped studs on loafers and brothel creepers, adding metallic sharpness to the collection’s ethereal base. Musician Hakushi Hasegawa’s soundscape wrapped the show in a trance-like rhythm, while Shinji Konishi’s sculptural headpieces stole attention with their eerie elegance. These headpieces resembled surreal artworks, reminiscent of Edvard Munch’s emotional intensity, yet molded into wearable art. Together, these elements framed Ninomiya’s garments in an artistic dialogue, merging texture, sound, and movement into something far more experiential than a traditional runway show.

The true marvel of the collection lay in the construction. Ninomiya’s manipulation of volume and structure pushed his signature aesthetic further into a dreamlike state. Starburst-like protrusions emerged from dresses as if they were blooming underwater. Mesh tesseract forms folded and unfolded around the body, giving the impression of living geometry. These garments were not static objects but living, breathing sculptures that reflected light and shadow with every turn. Ninomiya’s fascination with material experimentation came alive through layers of organza, plastic, and metallic thread that caught every flicker of light like glints off an ocean surface. The visual rhythm of the runway—shimmering whites, pale blues, then flashes of jet black—felt like waves in motion, pulling the viewer deeper into the designer’s imaginative current.

Despite the dreamy atmosphere, Ninomiya’s punk heritage was never far from view. Pentagram bralettes glinted under the lights, styled over sheer dresses that whispered rather than shouted. Neon face coverings and tailored blazers with harness detailing added structure and tension, creating an arresting contrast to the otherwise childlike joy of the collection. The mix of innocence and defiance formed a duality that kept the audience hooked. As the show closed, a poem by Aoyagi Natsumi echoed through the venue, reciting the names of sea creatures like an incantation.
