Sacai Resort 2027 turns away from the pressure to produce another high-impact runway moment. Chitose Abe presented the women’s collection separately from her Spring 2027 menswear show, giving shirtdresses, pocketed trousers, denim skorts and white blouses room to function as clothes rather than components in a grand reveal.
The more direct approach doesn’t remove the design language that makes Sacai recognizable. Proportions still shift unexpectedly, sleeves expand beyond their conventional shape and familiar garments carry details borrowed from somewhere else. Abe simply reduced the number of interruptions, allowing each adjustment to register without competing against several others at once.
Miniskirts came with shorts underneath, solving one of the silhouette’s most obvious practical problems without changing its abbreviated line. Trousers and skirts were fitted with utilitarian pockets, hanging straps and hardware, giving straightforward separates the functionality of workwear. The additions looked useful rather than decorative, prepared for phones, keys and the other objects that rarely appear in a runway fantasy.
White blouses offered a more polished counterpoint. Full sleeves expanded around the arms while long scarves flowed from the neckline, keeping a classic shirt from becoming too formal. A striped shirtdress added a polo collar, while another printed dress carried a scarf detail at one shoulder. Both could move through a hot city without requiring complicated styling or a second outfit waiting at home.
Denim received one of the collection’s clearest Sacai signatures. A faded black skort appeared with a matching jacket, its exaggerated rounded sleeves bringing volume to an otherwise familiar set. Compared with the layered coats, bows and mixed constructions of Sacai Fall 2026, the Resort pairing looks almost spare, but the altered sleeve shape prevents it from reading as basic.
The collection’s practical argument continued through its collaboration with Birkenstock. Abe combined recognizable sandal and clog elements, then added extra straps and oversized buckles. The resulting hybrids retain the grounded shape associated with Birkenstock while introducing the layered construction found throughout Sacai’s footwear.
The partnership also produced a shoulder bag with a base resembling Birkenstock’s bone-pattern outsole. Its adjustable strap uses the same square buckle associated with the footwear, turning two familiar functional details into the bag’s defining features. Nothing has been added simply to make the accessory look busier.
Separating the women’s collection from menswear allowed Abe to tell a smaller and more focused story. Resort 2027 isn’t built around dramatic transformations or a crowded list of collaborators. It asks what remains when Sacai’s signature combinations are edited down to the clothes women reach for repeatedly: a blouse, a shirtdress, a pocketed trouser, a denim set and sandals sturdy enough for the walk ahead.
