The Vibe :
⊹ Rosy cheeks, fuzzy fur and one extremely committed thumb-sucking pose
⊹ A 1970s Japanese toy reborn as fashion’s cutest little plus-one
⊹ Wonyoung, red gingham and enough matching bows to break the cute-o-meter
⊹ Your handbag may now require its own tiny furry best friend
Monchhichi is the fuzzy, freckle-faced character currently smiling its way back into fashion. Japanese toy company Sekiguchi introduced the doll in 1974, pairing a furry body with a soft-vinyl face, hands and feet. Some versions suck their thumb, others carry a pacifier, and nearly all possess the expression of a baby who knows it is getting exactly what it wants. After becoming an international favorite during the late 1970s and ’80s, Monchhichi has returned for another round of world domination, this time one handbag at a time.

The timing could not be sweeter. Fashion’s fixation on collectible characters has turned plush toys into accessories, with Labubu, Sonny Angels and fuzzy bag charms dangling from designer totes and belt loops. BLACKPINK’s Lisa helped introduce Monchhichi to a younger audience, but Wonyoung has now pushed the comeback into full cuteness-overload territory. For AMUSE’s 2026 Monchhichi campaign, the IVE star appears in red gingham surrounded by dolls wearing coordinating bows. It looks less like a standard beauty campaign and more like the world’s most adorable family portrait.

That slightly odd baby-monkey face is precisely why Monchhichi works now. It is sweet without looking overly polished, nostalgic without staying trapped in the toy box and recognizable enough to turn a basic bag into a conversation starter. The expanding Monchhichi universe now includes plush keychains, figures, bag charms, clothing and character-covered accessories. One Monchhichi clipped onto a tote is cute. Three gathered around Wonyoung in matching red bows? That is a tiny furry entourage with excellent coordination and a standing reservation at the cutest table in town.
