Christian Cowan Spring 2027 looks at Old Hollywood after the flashbulbs stop. Marilyn Monroe sits behind the season, particularly her uneasy relationship with fame, but the clothes avoid a literal screen-siren tribute. Instead, black and midnight dominate while pink and yellow flash through in smaller doses. Bias-cut dresses, vintage lace, open backs and slips pull from the 1930s, then get roughed up with raw edges, worn-looking surfaces and hosiery that feels deliberately less polished.
Cowan also digs into actual vintage materials, using fabrics dating from the 1920s through the 1950s. One sheer yellow dress began as a 1940s bridal veil before being dyed and rebuilt with silk panels, while a strapless taffeta gown uses fabric from the 1950s. The shift toward rosettes, lace and exposed corsetry makes the eveningwear feel more grown-up without sanding off the drama. Even denim gets involved through an inside-out tuxedo treatment with retro-style fastenings.
The finale swerves away from Monroe altogether. A padded red fishtail gown with Chantilly-trimmed bullet cups points toward Jayne Mansfield, while darker Gothic touches elsewhere bring Ethel Cain into the conversation. Cowan is still dressing for entrances; Spring 2027 is simply more interested in what happens once everyone is watching.
