The Vibe :
⊹ Early-1980s Upper West Side dressing recast through Helsa’s pared-back Scandinavian lens
⊹ Tweed and menswear tailoring loosened by satin, poplin and relaxed trousers
⊹ Structured jackets meet feminine dresses and deliberately unexpected footwear
⊹ Cream, camel and black interrupted by purple, red, chartreuse and icy blue
Helsa is spending fall on the Upper West Side. Elsa Hosk’s “Uptown Girl” collection looks to early-1980s New York, but there’s no need for a full period rewind. Tweed, crisp poplin and fluid satin move through the lineup alongside structured jackets and relaxed trousers, giving the clothes a slightly proper, slightly off-duty tension. The polish is there. So is the urge to mess with it.

Menswear codes do plenty of the talking without sending the wardrobe straight to the office. Helsa jackets and coats bring the sharper lines, while the label’s trousers loosen the proportion underneath. Tweed adds texture, poplin keeps things crisp, and satin slips in with a smoother finish. It looks like uptown dressing after someone quietly edited out the stuffiest parts.

Hosk keeps the feminine side from getting too sweet. Helsa dresses sit against the tailoring and are paired with footwear that pushes against the expected finish instead of politely completing it. Color does some disrupting too. Cream, camel, brown and black set the base before purple, red, chartreuse and icy blue break up the neutral run. A purple turtleneck beside a sharp black jacket does more for the collection than another literal retro reference ever could.

The shift still leaves Helsa’s Scandinavian roots visible. These are wardrobe pieces first, only now they have a little more Manhattan social life: a draped skirt, a fitted jacket, a pale knit, a loose trouser. The red zip jacket and chartreuse skirt sitting among all that cream and camel are the giveaway. Uptown, yes. Well-behaved, not entirely.
