Tolu Coker’s Spring 2027 collection marks a change of scene, literally. After receiving the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design earlier this year, the British Nigerian designer traveled to Rio de Janeiro and Bahia to rethink her next move. Back in London, she presented the clothes inside a suite at St. Clement, shifting from last season’s council-estate-inspired setting to a luxury hotel. The new surroundings captured a specific kind of arrival: getting access to different spaces without leaving your background behind.

That transition came through in the clothes. Coker loosened her signature tailoring with relaxed paneled jackets and roomy barrel-leg jeans, introducing softer proportions without losing the recognizable lines. Chiffon blouses featured tumbling ruffles, while a paneled poplin shirt extended into a dress with a swinging, puffed hem created by godet inserts. The mix of structure and movement brought a more grown-up femininity to the designer’s familiar silhouettes, with sharper pieces sitting alongside romantic fabrics.

Browns and ecrus grounded the palette, with cobalt and coral adding flashes of color. Images of Brazilian street life, female athletes and ballroom dancers informed Coker’s thinking about curves, volume and movement. The presentation made those references personal, with annotated moodboards, open diary pages and family photographs arranged across the suite. A chamber orchestra played on the balcony, while limited-edition Air Jordans were displayed inside like art objects, bringing another piece of the designer’s world into the hotel setting.
