The soft-focus beauty look is getting an autumnal upgrade. This season, cashmere makeup is on the rise, popping up on everyone from celebrities to runway models. The look is all about a blurred, velvet-like complexion paired with soft, deep neutrals on the eyes. Nothing feels overly pigmented or harsh. Instead, every shade is diffused into a suede-like finish that makes cashmere makeup particularly perfect for fall and winter. The deeper neutral tones are universally flattering, making this beauty trend well worth mastering as the temperatures drop. To simplify the process, we’re breaking down a quick, effective routine to help you recreate the cashmere makeup look you’ve been seeing all over your favorite celebs.
Soft-Focus Base
Much like other velvet and soft-focus skin finishes, a blurring primer is the ideal first step for cashmere makeup. Look for a whipped, smoothing formula to create an even canvas and help your complexion products glide on seamlessly. Follow with a matte-finish foundation and concealer to blur any areas of darkness or discoloration. Next, lightly dust on a loose, translucent setting powder, making sure to tap off any excess before sweeping it over the complexion. If you want a little more definition, use a matte contour to subtly sculpt the face before tapping a terracotta blush onto the apples of the cheeks for a warm, autumnal flush.
Cashmere Eyes & Matte Lips
For the eyes, sweep a matte, soft-medium brown eyeshadow across the lids and into the crease. You can use either a liquid or traditional powder formula, depending on your preference. Next, use a deep brown eyeliner to tightline the upper and lower waterlines, adding definition without introducing any harshness. With a tapered eyeshadow brush, blend a darker brown into the outer crease, keeping the pigment as close to the lash line as possible. Repeat the same shade along the lower lash line, softly diffusing the edges for that signature smoked-out effect. Finish with a coat of mascara.
For the lips, start by tapping on a pink-toned lip tint and letting it set for a few minutes before blotting away the excess. This creates a soft, natural-looking base for the rest of your lip look. Then, trace the lips with a light brown or mauve lip liner, blending the color inward for a seamless, softly blurred finish that perfectly complements the cashmere aesthetic.
