It’s no secret that the beauty world looks to East Asia for what’s next. From innovative skincare ingredients to viral makeup techniques, South Korea has become the mecca of all things beauty. Now, a new trend is taking over Korean social media called the Mori Girl makeup. The name comes from the Japanese word mori, meaning “forest,” and the aesthetic channels the feeling of someone who has just wandered out of a dense woodland. Think fresh, translucent skin, barely-there color, and an overall look that feels youthful. In many ways, Mori Girl makeup is a Korean take on the no-makeup makeup look, but slightly softer. Ahead, we’re breaking down exactly how to recreate the Mori Girl look at home.
Base
The Mori Girl complexion is pared back, even by Korean beauty standards. The goal is skin that looks fresh and almost transparent rather than fully covered. After a thorough hydrating skincare routine, use a creamy concealer to spot-treat dark circles and blend it out with a soft makeup puff. Next, dispense a small amount of skin tint onto the back of your hand and pick it up with the same puff. Press it into the center of your face, diffusing the product outward for the sheerest possible coverage. Skip the bronzer and contour you might normally reach for and go straight into blush. Choose a soft peach or baby-pink shade and gently tap it onto the apples of your cheeks. The color should be barely perceptible and just enough to add a subtle flush and a little dimension.
Eyes
Keep the brows as natural as possible, filling in only the sparse areas where necessary. For eyeshadow, sweep a soft light-brown shade across the lids and along the lower lash line to create a hint of definition. Next, tap a tiny amount of blush or muted red eyeshadow along the lower lash line for a soft wash of warmth. To really lean into the Korean beauty influence, highlight the aegyo-sal (the small, naturally puffy area directly beneath the eyes). Use a peachy shadow on the center of the area, then lightly shade directly underneath with a soft brown. If you want a little more definition, finish with a tiny flick of brown eyeliner at the outer corner of each eye. Keep the line thin.
Mori girl makeup is a softly flushed, fresh-faced look that highlights your natural beauty.
