With just a few weeks of summer left, now is the time to squeeze every last golden ray out of the season. And if you’re going to go out with a bang, holographic makeup is how you do it. We’re moving beyond a simple swipe of shimmer on the lids and committing to a fully monochromatic moment. Reflective pigments layered across the eyes, cheekbones, and lips create a multidimensional glow that feels almost otherworldly. Consider this your permission slip to go all out before autumn arrives with its deeper, moodier color palettes.
Base
The key to a holographic look is finding the sweet spot between matte and luminous – too much of either and the whole thing falls apart. Start with a thorough hydrating skincare routine to create a smooth canvas, then apply a light layer of medium-to-high coverage foundation. Follow with creamy concealer under the eyes and anywhere you need additional coverage. Bring warmth back into the complexion with a matte bronzer, concentrated on the temples, cheekbones, and jawline for a softly sculpted effect. Add a small amount of liquid blush to the cheeks, then lightly set the T-zone with loose powder. Layer a powder blush on top to intensify the flush while keeping the rest of the skin balanced.
Here’s where things get interesting. A dimensional highlighter with reflective, multi-tonal shimmer applied to the cheekbones, brow bone, and Cupid’s bow is what shifts this from a regular glam look into something that actually catches the light from across the room.
Eyes & Lips
After your brow routine, start with a soft neutral eyeshadow base. Blend a medium matte brown shade across the lid and into the crease for warmth and dimension, then press a holographic eyeshadow onto the center of the lid with your finger. Deepen the outer corners with a matte gray shadow, blending carefully to keep everything soft and diffused. Line the upper waterline and extend the liner outward into a subtle flick with your fingertip or a small brush. Finish with a pair of fluttery, dramatic lashes that fully commit to the ethereal vibe.
For the lips, continue the monochromatic shimmer theme by layering a high-shine gloss infused with reflective particles over your favorite lip liner and lipstick combination.
Nostalgic and futuristic at once, holographic makeup is exactly how summer should end.
